New Floor!

Hey, it's Mary. Zach came home this weekend to celebrate his 25th birthday and visit with our Philly friends. At the end of the weekend we went to Lumber Liquidators and got some laminate floor. After Zach finished ripping up the carpet last week, he stated that he never wants to rip that stuff up again in that house so we found an awesome deal on some wood laminate ($0.99 a per square foot!) that comes with the floor pads already attached to the panels. After loading all 500 square feet of panels into the Tacoma-Zach headed back to Binghamton.

1 Week Down

Well Saturday was the end of week 1. The structural engineer came, as well as Mark Traver to look at the house. Basically it was a mixed report. Our plans are doable on the first floor, however the 2nd floor and attic would be a major undertaking so we will most likely just repair as-is (still fixable just not in line with the "big plan").

So overall it was a productive weekend. We jacked the foundations of the house, eliminated 1 wall, finished scraping the "yellow stuff", and made multiple trips to our free Dumpster. Dad also outsourced a little help so we also have the 2nd floor hallway ceiling torn down.

Getting Started

Zach here, well I wanted to get started right away and get a couple rooms nice before Mary moves in. So almost at the end of week 1 and I have the carpet torn up in the living&dining room. Unfortunately there is a yellow sub layer under the cushioning that takes alot of scraping to pull up. The open wall is a potential design change and a structural engineer is comming saturday to go over it with me (along with the other changes). Depending how that goes things will look pretty different come end of week 2. We also sold some "Nursing home items" on craigslist and made $125!!!

Zach moved out!

I'm going to hang back for a few weeks to work plus we still have to pay rent in Philadelphia. The Initial Investigation

2010 has brought many changes for us this year, we decided to move to Vestal, NY (just outside of Binghamton, NY) and renovate one of Mom & Dad Kuhn's properties. Along with a new home/renovation, there will be new jobs & new schools so we figured creating a blog would be the best way to share our updates with friends and family. This weekend was our first trip to scope out the house. We made tentative plans and did a little "exterminating". We also looked at the local colleges, where Mary registered for her first pre-vet class in Binghamton, & Zach interviewed for Fahs Construction Group. Our other adventure for this weekend was Mom Kuhn flipping her Honda! Poor Honda :( Luckily Mom Kuhn is fine, she crawled out the drivers side door and went about her day. We ended the weekend with an early birthday celebration at Red Lobster!!!
